Walkie-Talkie cell phones developping faster
Wednesday September 10, 2003
Since Verizon's launch of a Motorola phone which can be used for push-to-talk "walkie-talkie" style conversations (such as Nextel phone's), there are other signs of that technology catching up. Today, 4 industry leaders including Nokia announced that they will work on a way to implement push-to-talk on GSM networks (source). And Nextel announced that they will now offer a roaming push-to-talk service to U.S. customers traveling in the northern region of Mexico. (see press release) What was just a technology designed for team workers is on its way to become a growing cell phone trend.
