City of New-York will "out" cellular companies with bad coverage
Wednesday October 29, 2003
In an unprecedented move that will force cell phone carriers to improve their coverage, the city of New-York announced yesterday a new phone number, "311", where cell phone users will be able to call to report dead spots - places where cell phones from a specific company don't work. And the city will make the information available to the public! Mayor Bloomberg says dead spot are dangerous if people can't call 911 in an emergency situation. You bet! And they better be ready for plenty of 311 calls, considering that "a recent J.D. Power and Associates study ranked New York last in customer satisfaction and call quality", says CNN. (source)
