What if cell phones actually reduced road fatalities?
Thursday January 15, 2004
A European research organisation has developed a system that sends a short message to local emergency services when it senses a crash. The device, called E-merge, can even determine the severity of the crash and include the detailed GPS position. According to French car maker Renault, E-merge could prevent serious injuries and save up to 6000 of the 40,000 lives lost each year on roads in Europe.
