A new number portability horror story

Newsweek writer David J. Jefferson recounts the horror story he went through when trying to switch from AT&T Wireless to Sprint PCS. "You could make outgoing calls. But incoming calls kept going to AT&T," he says. Sprint's customer service asked him to reprogram his phone and he did... Ten times: "I told the next person who suggested it that I refused to program any more phones until Sprint put me on the payroll."

My girlfriend was a customer service rep at AT&T Wireless. She used to come home crying because they made her lie to the customers about number portability. The systems were screwed up because they refused to update them by the FCC deadlines, and when portability became required they had systems that didn’t work. They stalled customers in an endless loop on purpose and lied to them just to make money.
