Samsung Working On an Always-on External Display

Samsung is working on an external display that would consume almost seven times less energy than today's external LCD's. This would allow an always on operation and good visibility in sunlight conditions, as it is claimed to be more than two times more contrastant than current displays. An exciting news, I believe, for simple yet useful applications such as a clock display: how useful is a clock display if it's always off when you look at it?
