Cingular Launches Broadband Wireless In 16 Metropolitan Areas
Friday December 23, 2005
Cingular launched last week its HSDPA Broadband Wireless service in 16 major metropolitan areas, including Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Washington D.C. HSDPA can reach speeds higher than 3 Mbps but Cingular's initial service will typically operate around 700 kbps with bursts as high as 1.8 Mbps, which is already more than two times faster than Sprint and Verizon's EV-DO services. Pricing will be similar to competitors with monthly unlimited service going for $60 dollars with a two year contract.
