What's Special About Amp'd Mobile?
Monday January 9, 2006
There's a new player on the block: Amp'd Mobile, a new virtual cellular carrier (using another company's network), wants to transform the mobile experience with a sharp focus on music and video. They launched partly last December and they became available nationwide today. So what's in Amp'd for you?:
Service plans starting at 30$ per month and all including nights & weekends and free mobile-to-mobile calls
Access to various mobile versions of popular channels including Comedy Central, ABC and many others on a monthly subscription basis from $2 to $5 per month.
All plans include 3 months of unlimited data to access these features but I was unable to find about pricing afterwards - if someone has a clue, let me know.
Amp'd phones are Kyocera phones renamed Angel and Jet with EV-DO broadband and Push-to-Talk service. Starting at $99, they come with some nice extras such as a 128MB memory card and, an extended life battery.
Visit Amp'd
After all, there's nothing so special about Amp'd but a lot of marketing targeted at the youth market with a strong focus on entertainment. Future will tell if Amp'd will be as big as it wants to be.

If you have any overload or overdose, the high speed internet is free. You can use it anytime anywhere as long as there is a connection. It is better than nextel, but with ampd mobile I still haven’t figured out how to have it save passwords.
You’re wrong about the nights and weekends. None of the plans offer that. You can purchase free night calling for an extra $7 a month, and free weekend calling is not even an option.
Don’t get Ampd unless you are 100% sure that you will never need to use their customer service. You wait on the line(internet or phone) forever! You can’t check your balance on line. You wait for your order forever and nobody tell you what’s going on. You just have to call back again and again and they wait forever and ever! I used to have 7-Eleven SpeakOut wireless(on cingular network) and even that has better system than Ampd!
Amp’d has the worst customer service that i have ever had. I ordered for a angel and it was on back order, i can’t get my refund before they send the phone. Plus they now send me a Holloywood before i can even ask for cancelling the service, they promised me 3 times to send me the return labels, but it has been almost 2 months before i can do aanything about it.
I do agree that if you’re not sure if you want to go with Amp’d, do a lot of research and aska lot of questions before you sign up, it’s almost like, once you’re in it, you’re stuck!
I am considering buying the pay as you go from Amp’d. does anyone have any information on that, that would be benifecial. Also, if anyone has any recommendations on better prepaid phones please let me know, as of now i have TracFone, I would like to change.
This is the WORST company with the worst customer service. My plan is 5 cents per minute, but they are charging me 25 cents due to their so called technical problem. Last month, I was charged $20 more, still no refund. Because I’m being charged 25 cents, my $100 quickly runs out, I have to call and ask them to put more minutes in, each call takes about 2 hours wait time, and the tech support has no idea what they are doing. If you don’t want to waste money and deal with the stress, try any other company instead.
Wow, tried to reach customer service to ask a simple question. Hung up after 20 minutes of being on hold and went to their “online chat” where they claim to be just seconds away…found myself #55 in cue. After 20 minutes was down to #48. Glad I found this out before buying from them. They’re just not ready for mainstrean users. The reason I called was there was no mention of voicemail on their website… hard to believe they wouldn’t have voicemail but it isn’t listed as an available service.
