UTStarcom "Confirms" Underwater-Proof G'zOne Cell Phone
Thursday April 6, 2006
Live From CTIA-Wireless in Las Vegas - Rumors have been circulating recently that the G'zOne, a water-proof phone already available in Japan, would be sold by Verizon in the U.S. Today, at the CTIA Wireless show in Las Vegas, UTStarcom was demonstrating the phone, though not yet "announcing" it officially.
We've seen water-resistant rugged phones before but this one can stay underwater fully powered on for up to 30 minutes. The G'zOne will cater to firemen, boaters (provided they don't drop it in deep sea, since it doesn't float), or whoever dropped a phone in the toilet more than 2 times. The G'zOne was inspired by the G-shock watches manufactured by Casio.

The G’zOne is *more* than inspired by Casio’s G-Shock line. It is manufactured by Casio.
I have been amazed that I have owned cheap waterproof watches for decades but could not find a waterproof phone. I clean pools for a living and have had to replace several. Isn’t the 21st century great!
This is a real cool phone
This phone has tested out very well! I’ve thrown it into the fish tank a few times already. If the phone gets dirty, just wash it. Putting it under running water is fine. I just remove the battery after, to dry some water which enters in there.
