Carriers Got You Hooked On SMS And Now They... Raise The Price!
Tuesday December 19, 2006
SMS (Text messaging) has been low to catch up in the USA, compared to the rest of the world. But now that cell phone users are delivering up to 100% increases in text messaging year over year, prices go up.
Cingular just announced that the cost for sending an SMS will raise from 10 cents to 15 cents in January. That follows a similar move by Sprint last october. According to a Cellphonenews.net story, Cingular's move aims to lure customers in subscribing to bulk SMS plans that can cost as much as $20 per month for unlimited messaging. After texting that much, not only your fingers will be aching. Your wallet as well.

Reports on many websites - www.FatWallet.com and www.howardforums.com are only two of them - show how Cingular is deal (or not) with the customers on this. There seems to be little consistency from Cingular and it is likely this will end up causing a lot more bad press than it will generate new revenue.
