The Apple Phone Is A New Kind Of Phone That Beats Expectations
Apple says they filed for more than 200 patents related to the iPhone. Other cell phone manufacturers must be scratching their head on how to beat that! Cingular will start offering the iPhone in June. It will sell in two versions: 4GB for $500 and 8GB for $600.
Fasten your seat belts. I believe it will be a hit. And Wall Street thinks so too. According to TheStreet.com, Apple shares surged 7% immediately following the announcement and are still fying high. Apple believes so much in its new phone (and other devices, of course) that they just announced they will be changing their name from Apple Computer to just Apple Inc, which tells a lot on the direction they are taking.

nice but…a camera?
What, no GPS function. Why have all the gadgets but one. Steve, what were you thinking?
cingular? why pair a potentially awesome phone with the crappiest of crap service providers…not to mention that they charge waaay too much for their crappy service! c’mon Apple!!
2 megapixel camera.
and expect additional providers once the initial cingular offering is done.
Actually, I don’t expect other US carriers. They’ve done joint development to provide additional functions on the iPhone (like visual voicemail) and I expect that their joint development agreement is going to make it unlikely that it will expand to others. Furthermore, the CEO of Cingular made it sound like there were additional features/functions in the pipeline through their codevelopment relationship.

There is NOTHING NEW in this phone.
You may have been waiting 6 years, but every feature is borrowed from other phones/mp3 players/PDAs/camera that have been out for years.
No mention of Standby Time either.
I’m disappointed.
You failed to mention the trademark they virtually stole from Cisco to make it happen. After asking for permission to use the trademark several times, and being turned down because Cisco already HAS a product in-market with that name… they decided to use it anyway. Not cool.
I agree with Scott. Not to mention how much other trademarks that they’ve stolen from other manufacturers/providers. These systems have been on the market in Europe and Asia. Will those other companies be paid for the cloning and abuse of their trademarked technology? Shame on Apple!!
