Celltop: Alltel Starts Widget Service On Cell Phones

Alltel just launched "Celltop", a patent-pending software that runs on Brew uiOne to offer instant access to a selection services similar to MyYahoo or Yahoo Widgets: Weather reports; Email; Stock quotes; Call log, etc.

All of this is already available on most other carriers but users need to launch a web browser and navigate to each item. Though Alltel says Celltop is free, users will still need to pay for the data downloaded. Each category will be accessible by a unique keypress. Alltel starts today with a first Celltop-enabled phone, the Samsung U520, and all new phones will be Celltop-enabled by default.
