Verizon Starts Live Streaming Mobile TV Today

Thursday March 1, 2007
Verizon starts MediaFlo Streaming TV on cell phones in 20 markets. Contrary to current Mobile TV offerings, which generally only offer chosen excerpts downloaded over a phone's data connection, Verizon's streaming TV will broadcast live TV over a dedicated network, provided your cell phone is compatible with the MediaFlo technology. Currently, the Samsung U620 is the only MediaFlo cell phone offered by Verizon.

The initial service, priced at $15 per month, offers only 8 channels: CBS, NBC, NBC News, Comedy Central, MTV. 20 metropolitan areas are currently covered including Chicago, Dallas, Seattle, Denver, New Orleans and other smaller cities.

AT&T is also set to launch a MediaFlo streaming TV service later. A strictly Mobile TV company, Modeo, i also currently testing the DVB-H system (another streaming TV format) in New-York-City.
