Put Your Cell Phone On A Leash

Tuesday March 27, 2007
CTIA Wireless 2007 - Speaking of fashionable phones, there are other "mobile" and "fashionable" things. The accessory and clothing industry generates a lot of gear every year: clothes with integrated controls, special bags or goggles. The "Fashion-in-Motion" show, part of the CTIA Wireless trade show, displays a lot of these innovative devices in a typical fashion show setting. Here is what caught my eyes (other than the cute models):

panda leashThe Panda Leash: The Panda Leash is a "micro-thin" leash that attaches to cell phones, iPods or digital cameras and clips to your belt, bag or bracelet. It prevents accidental loss or pick-pockets, just like grandpa's chain wallet. It is 5-inch long but can stretch to 3.5 feet and it comes in various colors and styles.

ChattBagThe ChattBag: I didn't fall in love with the design. Powder-blue hand bags do not match with my eyes, but I did savour the concept. ChattBags have a prominent, easily accessible pocket for your phone so: No more missed calls because you couldn't find your cell phone quickly enough - a frequent occurence in my case.

SkinitSkinit.com: Self-made printable faceplates isn't exactly a new idea but Skinit.com has the merit of pushing it near the obsession level. It offers stick-on skins for your cell phone with well-known brands such as Nascar or Football teams. Skinit's stickers won't damage your handset as they are easily removeable. But here is my main worry about Skinit: Do the corners start to curl after a few weeks, picking up dirt and slowly morphing your phone into a swamp-in-motion?
