Has The United Kingdom Found A Way To Stop Cell Phone Theft?

Friday April 13, 2007
According to EETimes Online, a new rule by the UK government and requiring cell phone carriers to block calls on stolen cell phones has produced impressive results in just a few days: 80% of phones were succesfully blocked. Thiefs may think twice before devoting energy to stealing a cell phone that won't work anyway.

Cell Phone service carriers are currently not quite motivated to do something about cell phone theft: Users locked in a contract generally have no choice than buying a new cell phone from their carrier to keep using their minutes, thus generating additional revenue for the carrier.
