Nokia Dangerous Batteries Recall -- Is Your Phone's Battery In The List?
Tuesday August 14, 2007
Cell phone companies have been telling for years that cell phone battery explosion cases were due to cheap aftermarket batteries, and that if consumers bought brand name batteries, they wouldn't be at risk. Well this time it sounds like brand name batteries aren't much better. Nokia is recalling 46 million batteries.
At least 100 of these batteries have been reported as overheating and "expanding" though not exploding.
The recall only applies to batteries bearing the number BL-5C and manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006. You can check your cell phone battery's details by removing it and reading its sticker. Nokia will replace the batteries free of charge.

I have a BL-5BT. Somehow I feel very afraid now. It doesn’t help that this battery only goes for about a day before being completely useless. I wish cell phones would come with decent battery life.
I’m using Nokia N95 with BL5F. The phone is loaded with everything you need but unfortunately, the battery is hopelessly not suitable to the phone. It easily drain within 16 hrs. on standby, and a lot shorter when your using internet. Nokia must upgrade the battery coz N95 units will be useless.
Anyfill developed a charger,X-Power(AF-M(E)110), which prevents from a battery explosion because it has a fuction of diagnosing a battery.
This innovative charger has the following fuctions.
If the protector doesn’t exit in battery, it warns with Red LED
If the protector doesn’t work correctly in battery, it warns with Red LED.
If the cell is hot during charging, it warns with Red LED.
If a cell phone shop has this special charger, they can do the followings.
1. When they sell a phone,
they sell it after testing. And then,
they can give a confidence with safety to customers.
2. IF a customer visits to test a battery after using several months,
they can verify if the battery is good or bad. And then, they can recommned customer to use it continuously or not with the result of test.
If Nokia uses this charger for customer service, Nokia reduces the cost a lot because Nokia changes a battery which has a problem after testing with X-Power.
