Israeli Study: 10 Minutes Cell Phone Use Could Increase Cancer Risk

Tuesday September 4, 2007
The variety of studies about whether cell phone use leads to cancer -- some saying yes, others saying no -- is so puzzling that the confusion it creates could, alone, cause brain cancer. Take the latest study published this month in New Scientist. It claims that even 10 minutes on a mobile phone puts your brain cells in a state that increases the risks of cancer.

The general belief is that, if cell phones affect brain cells, it's mainly because of the heat they generate. But the authors of that study wanted to demonstrate that radiation alone, without heat, can affect brain cells. So they exposed rat and human cells to just about one tenth of the power emmitted by a normal cell phone, a power level they say generates so little heat that the changes they witnessed can only be caused by radiation per se.
