Skyhook Wireless Announces MyLoki Location Sharing Service

Monday March 17, 2008

by Shane McGlaun

Social networking services are all fine and good, but what do you do if you want to move those online relationships into the real world? You use a location service that allows your online friends to find your exact location offline for some real-world social networking.

Skyhook wireless announced a new cellular service today called MyLoki. MyLoki is a Wi-Fi Positioning System that feeds the Loki location to a personal blog, social networking site or location directory like Fire Eagle.

MyLoki is available for almost all Wi-Fi enabled mobile devices like laptops and cell phones. Supported platforms include Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Mobile, Mac OS X and Symbian S60. The service is able to plot your location using Wi-Fi access points and is accurate to 20 meters.
