Panasonic to Build Cell Phone with Plasma Display for AT&T
by Shane McGlaun
I reported last week that AT&T would be launching a new Mobile TV service in May. Only specific 3G AT&T handsets will be able to use the new Mobile TV service. Panasonic announced today that it will be building a new phone for the service using an AbleComm display.
Specifically the new phone will use a small AbleComm plasma display. When you say plasma display most of us think about large HDTV sets that are normally over 50-inches in size. The plasma display used in the phone will require only 1.5 volts to operate.
Another important feature is that the plasma display won’t require special wiring or a special power supply to operate. The addition of a plasma display to the phone rather than a standard LCD of the same size should provide users with a brighter image with better contrast. This is the first cell phone to be made with a plasma display.
