Nokia Introduces the 6212 Classic
by Shane McGlaun
Nokia introduced its latest handset today called the Nokia 6212 Classic. The handset features integrated Near Field Communication (NFC). The 6212 is a 3G handset that will allow users to share content, access services and information like paying for tickets and more with one tap of the device. Nokia says NFC is designed for easy to use and safe interaction between electronic devices. Tapping a NFC-enabled tag will allow consumers to open web links, audio files or contact data directly on the phone.
"NFC-capable handsets such as the Nokia 6212 classic are set to change the way mobile phone users interact with devices and services in their surroundings," says Jeremy Belostock, the Head of Near Field Communications, Nokia. "With the Nokia 6212 classic, people can swap items like business cards or calendar notes by simply tapping their handsets together. With ever-increasing device functions and services available, ease-of-use is essential. One way to keep things simple is NFC."
Using this sort of NFC tech could usher in an interesting payment option here in the U.S. where we can buy things from vending machines and other retail outlets with our phones rather than credit cards. Some of the credit card companies are using similar tech today where you can simply tap your credit card rather than swiping it. The phone also features an FM tuner, 2-inch display and microSD memory expansion in addition to a 2MP camera.
