Speed Racer Game Races onto Mobile Phones

Recently it seems like you can’t watch TV without seeing a promo for the Speed Racer film, which my son is very keen to see. The film looks cheesy to me, but it seems I’ll have to sit through it no matter what.

As part of the promotion for the movie Glu Mobile announced this week that it is launching a mobile phone game based on the Speed Racer film. The game requires players to use “car-fu” to drift, slide, jump and drive defensively. The tracks are described as extreme and requiring drivers to compete against other competitors and avoid obstacles.

Glu promises that the game has advanced graphics and 3D screens. IGN says the game has more in common with the new film that the old anime Speed Racer became famous for. It’s nice to see mobile phone games starting to come into their own with some big releases.
