Ticketed? Headsets.com Handing Out Free Cell Phone Headsets After the Fact
Wednesday May 28, 2008

To jump on the bandwagon of changing consumer behavior, Headsets.com recently announced that it’s handing out free mobile headsets to anyone who’s ticketed while driving. While the offer is admittedly helpful after the fact, you need only mail in a copy of your traffic citation.
In the U.S., approximately 2,600 people are killed and up to 330,000 are injured annually in driver-distracted automobile accidents when cell phones are involved, according to studies by the Harvard Center for Risk Analysis.
“I just feel compelled to try and do something about this tragedy,” Headsets.com CEO Mike Faith said in a May 20, 2008 statement.
For a company that sells headsets, though, Faith interestingly added: “We’d rather that people didn’t take calls while driving – hands free or not. There’s just no way you can chat on the phone and keep the same attention on the road. We encourage everyone to pull over if they have to make or receive a call. It’s the only way to be really safe.”
“If you put a 20-year-old driver behind the wheel with a cell phone in their hand, their reaction times are the same as a 70-year-old driver who is not using a cell phone,” David Strayer, professor of psychology at the University of Utah, said in the statement.

I wholeheartily agree that you should pull over to take a phone call. However, I tried that on I80 in Pa. and the Stste Police pulled in behind me and told me that it is illegal to stop along the highway. I was completely off of the roadway. So, either way you may get a ticket. It’s not fair.
It is not meant to be fair – or even to promote safety. It is a fund-raiser for government. If safety is a side effect, LEO will be happy, but politicians really don’t give a hoot. All they want is money.
Politicians are coming up for re-election so they need laws like this to show they are concerned for public safety. The fines are pretty small starting out, so they won’t be huge money generators. Besides, you can’t get pulled over just for talking on a cellphone in California.
Hey Guys and Gals,
So I am not that proud that i got a ticket for using my cell phone while driving. But thanks to Headsets.com they sent me a FREE bluetooth headset!!!!!!
The company was in the news for a promoting the dangers of not using a hands free device while driving and was offering a Free bluetooth headset if you got a ticket. Well i was stupid enough to get one. So i thought that i would check out this website to see if i could actually get one. Not only did they send me one, they sent me a top of the line Plantronics Discovery 925. This thing retails for $129.95 and it is a very nice piece of equipment. They even shipped it Fed Ex overnight!!!
Now keep in mind that this cost me NOTHING!!!!!!. If this company is willing to go out of their way for me and i didn’t even purchase anything, I can only imagine how they actually treat “paying” customers.
Im not telling anyone to go out and get a ticket, But i would ask that if you need to buy a headset, because its the law now, Please check them out before you make your purchase. You guys know that i like getting the best possible deal, and their prices are Excellent. I have not been contacted in anyway by this company to give them exposure or anything else. The only contact that i have had was to send them a copy of my ticket, and an email with a fed ex tracking number. I am doing this all on my own, and i would like people to get this great company’s name out.
Please feel free to pass this email along to other friends and family. http://www.headsets.com/
