CTIA, which is a wireless association, has deemed June 2 to June 6, 2008 “National Wireless Safety Week” with the goal of shining the spotlight on how cell phones and other wireless technologies are a boon to personal safety.

In spreading the jingle that “safety is your most important call,” the week is also designed to share with consumers easy ways to use wireless technology safely.

“Since 1990, the wireless industry has joined together in sponsoring National Wireless Safety Week to focus attention on the important issue of public safety,” said CTIA CEO Steve Largent in a recent statement.

Largent added: “This year, we want to remind the more than 250 million wireless subscribers in the U.S. to not only act responsibly when using their wireless device but to take responsibility and use their phones to help someone else in need.”

CTIA labels itself as an “international association for the wireless telecommunications industry [that represents] carriers, manufacturers and wireless Internet providers”.
