Text Messaging: New Study Says 82 Percent of U.S. Users Have Never Texted
Monday July 7, 2008

The “not-at-all crowd,” though, significantly outweighs the rabid texters, according to the study from research agency Ipsos MediaCT.
The study reveals that 82 percent of U.S. respondents said they have “never used” text messaging even once while 15 percent reported using it “every week or more” and 3 percent said they’ve texted “monthly or less”.
While the figures may sound aggressively in favor of the no-texting camp, it’s relevant to mention that the Ipsos MediaCT study didn’t specify how many people were polled. This is a necessary data point to accurately judge how well the figures represent a diverse sampling of U.S. cell phone users.
Let’s take an About.com poll. Do you send text messages using your cell phone? If so, how often? Chime in on the poll below.

Wow, this is really surprising. i would say that considering the amount of marketing that goes into text messaging, these numbers are off. I am wondering what the age demographic was for the people polled, as well as the number of people.
wonderful for all
I find this extremely hard to believe. If this were true then do service providers have any incentive to charge extra for a service no one uses?
Unbelievable!!! Is it so ex to sms in US or what?!?
I can believe that the majority of Americans don’t use text massaging, but 82%? That’s a little hard to believe. I would like more numbers on that study and just WHO they asked. 100 of the technologically disinclined and shunners of “cell phones, video games and all that other electric nonsense” do not count as “a good representative of the vast U.S. population.” Also: ‘Several times per hour’ should be an option in that poll. Haha
