Apple is recalling the ultracompact USB power adapters that came with iPhone 3G units because they pose a risk of electric shock, the company says. Owners are advised to stop using the adapters immediately, and to exchange them for a new model.
The problem lies with the metal prongs on the adapter, which can break off and remain in a power outlet, Apple says. The company while they have received reports of the broken blades "involving a very small percentage of the adapters sold," no customers have been injured.
It is safe to charge your iPhone 3G with the USB cord that connects it to your computer, and the power adapters that came with first-generation iPhones are not affected.
