Happy New Year! Sprint Poll: How Will You, Your Cell Phone Ring in 2009?
Wednesday December 31, 2008
While what’s on deck for 2009 isn’t clear, one thing is: hordes of people will be using their cell phones tonight to wish friends and family well as we usher in the new year.
“New Year’s is one of the highest text messaging days of the year,” said Sprint senior vice president of network services Bob Azzi in a Tuesday statement. “We anticipate traffic volumes this New Year’s to be about 200 percent, [which is] double the normal rate.”
He added: “Every year, we enhance our networks in areas like New York’s Times Square, Las Vegas and in other cities across the nation where our customers may be celebrating.”
How will you ring in 2009 using your cell phone? Sprint is offering for its customers to submit their free vote by texting 22331 with one of the following letters:
A) Sending a text message
B) Sending a picture message
C) Calling loved ones
D) Sending a video message
E) Using Nextel Direct Connect (push to talk)
F) Using Sprint 3G or 4G mobile broadband service to access your social network
Participation in this poll is free. Sprint says poll results are expected to be posted the week of Jan. 5, 2009 at its BuzzAboutWireless.com site. Participants in the poll will receive the results via free text message.
After texting your vote, Sprint will respond by offering for you to join its free text messaging alert service for other polls as well as free breaking news alerts from CNN.
Sprint says 1 million people will gather in New York’s Times Square on New Year’s Eve. The cell phone carriers also says it has been bolstering its network since April 2008 for the presidential inauguration of Barack Obama on Jan. 20, 2009.
