Verizon Slashes BlackBerry Storm Price

From Liane Cassavoy, About.com GuideJuly 18, 2009

Verizon Wireless has cut the price of the BlackBerry Storm in half, fueling even more speculation that a new version of the touch-screen smartphone will launch soon.

Verizon is now offering the BlackBerry Storm for $99.99; that's $100 less than what they had been charging for the Storm since it launched last fall. The Storm had something of a rocky reception when it debuted, as its lack of Wi-Fi support and its SurePress touch-screen were derided by many critics.

The price cut could be one way for Verizon to clear out its inventory of existing Storm smartphones to make way for the Storm 2, which should add Wi-Fi support. Verizon has confirmed it will offer the new Storm, but has not said what features it will include or when it will launch. It is widely believed that the new Storm will launch in September, though.
