As expected, Apple has updated its iPhone software to fix the serious SMS security flaw that came to light last week. The fix is contained in the latest version of the iPhone software, 3.0.1, now available in iTunes.
The security flaw, which was showcased at last week's Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas, would allow a hacker to send a specially-crafted text message, which could be used to disable or even remotely gain control of the phone that received it. The flaw affects all GSM phones, including the iPhone.
If you own an iPhone, you should download the updated software from iTunes to get the fix. For tips on how to do that, read my step-by-step guide to updating your iPhone's software.
