Microsoft Office Coming to Nokia Phones?

From Liane Cassavoy, About.com GuideAugust 12, 2009

Microsoft and Nokia are teaming up to bring a mobile version of the Microsoft Office suite to Nokia smartphones, The New York Times is reporting.

The two companies have scheduled a conference call for Wednesday, but have not confirmed what they will be announcing. The Times, however, is reporting that Nokia and Microsoft will announced a partnership that is designed to help both companies compete with rivals like Google, which offers a free suite of Web-based applications that can be accessed from many phones, include those based on Google's Android operating system. The Times report is based on information from an unnamed source who has "knowledge of the agreement."

Most Nokia smartphones run the Symbian operating system and ship with the QuickOffice suite installed. It's a free, but limited, mobile office solution. Upgrading to the mobile version of Microsoft Office, which comes with most Windows Mobile-based phones, would be a definite improvement.

Exciting news isn’t it? For the details on web apps, check out the team’s blog here: http://blogs.msdn.com/officewebapps/default.aspx
There’s also a great video on the Office Facebook Page about the web apps: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1125277366841
