Motorola CLIQ Unveiled With MOTOBLUR For T-Mobile; First Google Android Phone From Motorola
Friday September 11, 2009
As anticipated two weeks ago, Motorola on Thursday unveiled its first phone based on the Google Android operating system.
Officially dubbed the Motorola CLIQ, the new full touch screen phone also packs a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard, a full HTML Web browser, 3G data speeds, Wi-Fi, a 3.1-inch screen and an impressive, 5-megapixel auto-focus camera.
For added chic appeal and reason to keep marketing and legal folks busy, the CLIQ also boasts some trademarked jargon: MOTOBLUR.
MOTOBLUR is code for a feature that syncs and streams communications, contacts and content from popular social sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter all to the CLIQ’s home screen.
The Motorola CLIQ, which was unveiled on Thursday before a worldwide audience at GigaOM Mobilize 09 in San Francisco, is first coming to T-Mobile in two colors: titanium and winter white. The Motorola CLIQ will be available exclusively in the U.S. from T-Mobile later this fall.
In competition with the monolithic app store from Apple, Motorola CLIQ users can access thousands of apps and widgets from the Google Android Market, MOTOBLUR and pre-loaded Google apps.
The Motorola CLIQ is the third Google Android-based phone for T-Mobile following the T-Mobile G1 and T-Mobile myTouch 3G. Pricing for the Motorola CLIQ has not yet been announced.
