Page Plus Cellular, which is one of the many nationwide prepaid wireless carriers in the United States, offers low per-minute rates without contracts.

The mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), which uses the Verizon Wireless network, on Thursday announced that it's lowering the rate of its standard prepaid wireless voice plan even more.

Page Plus says its $10 replenishment card, which is the best-selling refill for its standard plan, will provide 100 minutes of talk time instead of the 83 minutes previously provided. The increase effectively lowers the per-minute rate from 12 cents to 10 cents.

The change will go into effect on Nov. 16, 2009.

In Oct. 2009, Page Plus Cellular launched its Talk n Text 1200 plan, which provides 1,200 voice minutes, 1,200 text or picture messages and 50 megabytes of data for $29.95 a month. In Aug. 2009, the carrier released its Unlimited Talk n Text plan for $39.95 a month.

While the Talk n Text options are monthly prepaid wireless plans, the standard plan is a pay-as-you-go service that can be refilled at any time in denominations of $10, $25, $50 or $80.

At its lowest rate, a Page Plus Cellular plan can get the cost down to 6 cents per minute. The minimum replenishment period is 120 days, which means a low-use customer can use the service for approximately $3 a month.

Care to provide any specifics about the alleged 6¢ per-minute rate?

Also, if you look carefully at the fine print on their website, you have to sign up and pay a balance up front to keep this service.

There are also additional charges for directory assistance, roaming etc.

Plus overage fees. Meh!

Having to maintain a balance, by the way, is a disadvantage.

Pay as you go is where it’s at. THAT’s really prepaid!

If you do the math on the $80 card, that’s how you get the rate of 6 cents per minute.

it actually works out to 5.5 cents per minute, you’ll pay an average of $20/month if you use all the minutes

they do charge $.25 a month for some reason, weird, and you must refill every 120 days. Beats paying Verizon $50+ EVERY month.

the service works great with Google Voice. I’ve got my cell phone bill down to $12 / month. When Google rings my phones, I can pick up the cheapest available.

Page Plus uses the Verizon network, which is no comparison to other prepaid networks (or any other network for that matter)

I think you could do just as well if you get the Verizon family plans, but since it’s just me, it’s nice to get the savings some other way.

We have been using Page Plus cellular for a mobile phone for our young teenager for 2 years. We used a old verizon phone to activate his account, and any verizon phone could work, not just older ones and not just the phones sold on PagePlus’ website. The $10 card has been a great prepaid service for him. It lasts about 4 months and he only uses it for emergencies. It has taught him responsibility without the worries of a more expensive plan or more valuable phone. Service has been as reliable as our Verizon service. I would recommend PagePlus to anyone. It is the best value in Prepaid phone service out there!
