That's a big statement, I know, but it's currently being backed up in a 424-page, 659-slide study entitled "The Mobile Internet Report" from Morgan Stanley analyst Mary Meeker.
The report, which was released on Tuesday, reveals the following high-level findings, according to MinOnline digital media editor Steve Smith:
- We're seeing a "fifth cycle of wealth destruction and creation that will surpass earlier computing cycles".
- Apple and Facebook have especially made mobile platforms to engage users and developers in unprecedented ways.
- "Mobile is ramping up faster than any platform before it and will bring a staggering scale worldwide."
- Meeker names Google, Amazon.com and Adobe as companies that are poised especially well to harnass mobile content.
- The international opportunity for content and service providers "could be enormous" since "large swaths of the world population will be relying on their mobile phones as primary entryways to Internet data".
A 104-slide "setup" version of the new report can be found here. The full, 659-slide version can be found here. Information on more cell phone studies can be found here.
