Aliph, maker of the popular Jawbone bluetooth headsets, has added a new product to its already impressive lineup: the Jawbone ICON. The new headset, which Aliph says is the "smartest, most comfortable, and smallest Jawbone ever created," features a secret weapon: a software platform called MyTalk that allows you to customize your headset.
Aliph's MyTalk lets you update your ICON using a variety of apps that are available for the headset. You access the apps by plugging the ICON into your computer and visiting mytalk.jawbone.com. The site allows you access to six AudioApps, which allow you to change the voice that conveys information to you over the headset, such as battery life and called ID info. You can choose between voices and personalities that Aliph calls "the Hero" or "the Bombshell," among others.
MyTalk also offers access to a variety of DialApps, which let access various services, such as 411 or voice dialing services, by pressing the Talk button on your headset. You also can use DialApps to post updates to Facebook and Twitter by speaking into your headset.
In addition, MyTalk features a handy feature for iPhone users. It will display a visual battery meter for your ICON right on the screen of your iPhone, so you can quickly see how much power is left in your headset.
The ICON features an updated version of Aliph's NoiseAssassin technology, which is designed to eliminate background noise. While I have not yet tested the new version, I have high expectations for it, as earlier versions proved very impressive on both the Jawbone Prime and the older Jawbone II headsets.
The Jawbone ICON lists for $99.99, which is a surprisingly low price, when you consider than past Jawbone headsets sold for $120 to $130. It's nice to see that Aliph has introduced a product that adds lots of new features while significantly lowering the price.
Stay tuned for a full review of the Jawbone ICON.
