Apple is holding a media event this week where the company is widely expected to launch its first tablet computer. But a new tablet may not be the only new product from Apple this week, as many people expect the company to launch new iPhone software and perhaps even new iPhone hardware at the event.
The launch of a fourth-generation iPhone handset seems unlikely, as Apple has announced the last two iPhone handsets (the 3G and 3GS models) in the spring, just a few months ahead of a summer launch. It seems likely that Apple will keep the focus of Wednesday's event on a new tablet, and not on a new iPhone. It is likely that Apple will announce a new iPhone handset later this year, though.
What seems more likely to happen at Wednesday's event is Apple unveiling a major upgrade to the iPhone OS. FoxNews.com says Apple will unveil version 4.0 of the iPhone software, but not new iPhone hardware. New features in the updated iPhone OS will include full multi-tasking, meaning you'll be able to run more than one application at a time, and the ability to use multi-touch gestures across the operating system, according to a post on BoyGeniusReport.com.
Apple's event is scheduled for 10 am Pacific time on Wednesday January 27. Stay tuned.
