Will Walmart Sell the Nexus One?

From Liane Cassavoy, About.com GuideJanuary 26, 2010

Rumors that Walmart would soon begin selling Google's Nexus One smartphone began swirling on Tuesday, after the phone appeared on the discount retailer's Web site. Walmart says the page appeared in error, though, and says it has no plans to carry the phone.

The Nexus One, which was launched earlier this month, is sold exclusively online by Google. The phone is available in two versions, one that's unlocked and another with service from T-Mobile. At the Nexus One launch event, Google said that a version with service from Verizon Wireless would be available this spring.

The version of the Nexus One that was listed on Walmart's Web site (in a page that is still available, as of this writing) supports the EvDO 3G data network, which is the network that Verizon uses.

While that may seem to be a sign that Google might offer the phone through more retailers when the Verizon Wireless version of the handset becomes available, Walmart says the page simply appeared in error. A company spokesperson tells BusinessInsider.com, "Due to a technical error, this item erroneously was displayed on our site. We're working with our partner Let's Talk to have it removed as quickly as possible. We have no plans to carry Nexus One in Walmart stores or online at Walmart.com at this time."
