Several wireless trends that gained traction in the last half of 2009 will continue to build steam in 2010, according to a Tuesday report from online cell phone retailer Wirefly.

The company is an authorized dealer for every major cell phone carrier in the U.S. Wirefly's mobile trend predictions for 2010 can be found below.

Price War Heats Up: Wirefly says carriers will keep investing in increasing their coverage areas, improving service quality and upping data speeds while driving down costs to consumers. Various price wars went public last week.

Continued Android Growth: With more cell phone and smartphone makers introducing various handsets on Google's innovative platform, the Android operating system is set to make big gains in the smartphone market in 2010.

Smartphone Surge Continues: Handset makers will continue to roll out new and improved smartphones to match the growing demand for consumers to stay connected with advanced feature requirements. In 2010, Wirefly says "the smartphone will be the norm and not the exception" for most consumers.

App Store Growth: As more smartphones flood the wireless market, you'll see a greater presence of app stores and apps within them. Consumers are relying more on their smartphones for productivity, entertainment and communication.

As such, consumers will no longer be satisfied with the standard applications that come installed on their phones. Instead, they will seek out and download specific apps that cater to their needs.
