Hoping to get your hands on the slick new Droid X smartphone? Prepare to wait: the device is currently sold out through August 4, according to Verizon's site. And heading to a retail store isn't likely to land you a Droid X, either, as an analyst reports that the phone is sold out there, too.
In a research note on Monday, Gleacher & Co.'s Mark McKechnie said that he checked supplies of the Droid X over the weekend and late last week, and found "no supply [of the Droid X] at retail as all production is still going to fill 'pre-order' backlog."
The Droid X launched on July 15, and has proven popular, with its 4.3-inch screen and speedy performance. Sales of the Droid X may also have been buoyed by recent problems with Apple's new iPhone 4; that device has been plagued by reports of antenna problems and dropped calls since its launch in late June.
