Verizon to End Unlimited Data Plans

From Liane Cassavoy, About.com Guide   May 22, 2011

It's been rumored for a while, and now it's official: Verizon Wireless will discontinue its unlimited data plans. The news was confirmed this week by Verizon's Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo at the Reuters Global Technology Summit.

The unlimited plans will be discontinued at some point this summer, Reuters reports, noting that the move is being made to force "heavy data users to pay more for mobile data."

Cellular carriers have been moving away from unlimited data plans. AT&T Wireless did so last year, eliminating its unlimited offering in favor of different tiers of data service. The move, which was seen as a way to protect its network from the heavy traffic generated by iPhone users, angered many.

Verizon Wireless tested a tiered data plan last fall, offering users 150MB of data for $15 per month. The carrier continued to offer its unlimited data plan ($29.99 per month), and discontinued its tiered option after a short time.

Now, it looks like Verizon is moving away from the unlimited option altogether, but the details of the tiered plans have not yet been released. Stay tuned.

(2) djb :

Why? AT&T grandfathered in those with existing unlimited plans, Verizon will as well. What are your options? Going over to AT&T-Mobile where caps exist, Sprint who is on life-support, or Ghettro PCS for terrible coverage and slow data speeds?

But where would you go? They’re all going to limit bandwidth!

AT&T and Verizon are NOT the only game in town, neither is the iPhone. The ‘angered many’ are justified. The Android phone explosion is not an insignificant contributor to heavy traffic. Marginalizing non-iPhone consumers by ignoring their usage, market share, and network load is lazy, tunnel vision journalism. Start over and republish when have a complete article on unlimited data plans…

Realistically these companies must limit bandwidth until they get a better way of transmission. But I say to hell with the smart phones and tablets that use phone company connections. Give me a simple flip phone and WIFI for device connection. Remember when families had one or two push button or rotary phones in the home. We survived. We actually knew people’s phone numbers. If you need the 3G or 4G use it for business only. We do not need to watch a movie while riding on the train. Get real. Sorry iPhone and Android… we do not really need you.

If they limit users, I can only hope users will limit them. We the consumer have the power of not doing business with those that don’t offer products we don’t want. Don’t settle for thier paltry offering game. They Don’t have me in a bind, enjoy one less customer of yours.

Well, I just got the Thunderbolt a few months ago from Verizon, and now they are going to cancel their unlimited data plan. With Smart phones connecting all the time, turning it off and on is going to be a paid. Time to look for a new carrier since the over charges are going to cost more then the disconnect penalty. Guess its time to look at going back to T-Mobile, unless AT&T buys it then I will not.

Well sad to say but most companies are doing this wether it be for cell phones or like att, carrying all services they are limiting bandwith, ie att offers multi services home, business, mobility, etc the reason i bring this up is a lot of home and business service providers are also limiting bandwith for downloads at home as well and if by somechance they lose a customer here or there its not going to really do anything about it because everyday they have a good 20 or 30 ppl signing up for new service if not much much more

May 22, 2011 at 12:41 pm

I agree losing a few customers here and there isnt going to change much if anything at all but if we dont take a stand then they will keep thinking they can push customers around

(15) kpepps17 :

I am not at a loss. But if you choose to spend your money watching some reruns on your smart phone, while on your way to work, so be it. Just seems pointless. Bury your head into your phone like some automaton refusing to interact with your surroundings. You could download something to your home computer and sync with your device before you leave the house and save a few bucks. But if you wish to call me an idiot to make yourself feel smart I really do not care.

May 22, 2011 at 12:43 pm
(16) UnhappyZombie :

well you maybe right about that, but at the same time a band of 12 customer who leave a service is not even gonna draw any concern from virizon, sprint, or att because they offer service to thousands of consumers, it would take losing a drastic amount to even open their eyes to the fact that we dislike what they did

May 22, 2011 at 12:52 pm
(17) John Pichardo :

It seems Verizon is getting too comfortable with its success…even the thought of discontinuing unlimited data is a slap in the face to the loyal subscriber. For all those of us who got their first cell phone from Bell Atlantic Mobile, then endured through the NYNEX Mobile, then GTE mergers, we remained loyal. We even evangelized Verizon’s excellent coverage and services to all our friends and family, belittling those whom would use AT&T and joking about T-Mobile users. Now, after 18 years with Verizon, I’m actually considering canceling all 8 cell phones (that’s 2 family share plans with 4 phones (1 smart phone on each account). For that kind of money, I should be getting not only unlimited data on my smart phone, but on all the phones on my accounts plus tethering with no additional charges. Believe me…THAT is what I want. Better yet…I’ll just pay the Early Termination Fees and use the money for a new car, instead.

(18) rokran3 :

I’m agreeing with djb and hoping they grandfather this change. To those who don’t understand why people need to be on their smartphone all the time. Some of us commute 2+ hrs on bus, train, etc. We use this time productively. Data use is a necessity. I’m not a user who uses the bandwidtch to watch tv and movies. Those type of apps should charge extra to use.

May 22, 2011 at 12:53 pm
(19) Shawn :

I have just renewed my contract, and for people that still have time on theirs then right now you have nothing to worry about. With you and everyone having a contract they can not change anything in there. When your time is up then you can decide if you need to change companies or choose a different plan. Until this happens I wouldn’t worry about it people.

May 22, 2011 at 12:55 pm
(20) Herky93 :

If you want or you think you need all this tech. crap. Then use it, but pay for it and let the people who do have to feel they’re inportation have our simple flip phones. If it cost you a little extra then so be it. Suck it up, but don’t make the rest of us pay for something you think you need. Believe me no one is that importation. Not even you.

May 22, 2011 at 1:00 pm
(21) kpepps17 :

Oh yeah, just for the record…..I am not happy with Verizon by any stretch of the imagination. They are getting worse and not better. They have gigged me left and right some ridiculous fees and charges. I refuse to give them more money than I have to, just to use a device that I use at home more than I do, using their frequencies, while I am out and about. They can go do something to themselves that I cannot mention here.

May 22, 2011 at 1:05 pm
(22) bobsmith :

Either they will grandfather you in or they will have to change your contract. If they change your contract, this allows you to get out of the contract (which I would advise even if you plan on staying with them). This would allow users to change providers. Sprint is the only viable option left though… It’s quite sad to see the government allowing merger after merger (airlines, cell phone companies, etc). This results in a decrease in competition which is bad for the consumer (i.e., the citizens, which the government is supposed to work for).

May 22, 2011 at 1:07 pm
(23) The Truth :

Hopefully Verizon will grandfather pre-existing unlimited data users, at least till the end of the agreed 2 year contract, then after that, it’s fair game I guess for them to pop you out.

That said, no one in their right mind should be using their 3G/4G network for massive data transfer. That’s what WIRELESS CONNECTIONS are for. 3G/4G are spotty and too slow most of the time anyways due to so many people on the network. Sure 4G is fast atm, but I can’t keep a stable connection for longer then 3-5 mins then the phone locks up, network dies, bugs, etc…

In the end, it will just mean people will pay more attention to wireless nodes and yea, as David Lynch once explained, stop watching a movie on your f*!king phone.

Bad move on the part of Verizon. Sure makes me glad that I went with their rival, Sprint. I think they will find that other carriers will eat away their market share due to this poor move…

WAKE UP, PEOPLE!

PlatinumTel offer a Real PayGo plan that offers ten cents per megabyte for data, two cents per text and five cents a minute phone.

DO THE MATH! Ten cents per meg is $15 per month for 150 megabytes, exactly the same as Verizon. BUT – and here’s the really important part – if you use less you PAY LESS. At Verizon and all the other major carriers, you pay the same even if you NEVER turn on your phone.

No monthly contract. No accidental overages. And on my Zio, I have WiFi to download movies and programs and songs onto my 16 gigabyte microSD card to watch on the go for free. I rarely go over $8 a month TOTAL phone bill since I’m careful about 3G data, using it only for quick research in the field, not tv and movies, etc.

How many of you pay $8 a month for phone, text and data? If you ARE a data hog. STILL use PlatinumTel PayGo and buy 500 megabytes per month for $50. See if I care :-)

I don’t work for PTel, I’m just thrilled to have no credit card on file with ANY major carrier.

Have them all offer tiered services then WHAM…Google moves into the cellular market with unlimited bandwidth and people won’t care about the ads popping up on their phones.

150MB is definitely not enough. I use about 1.1GB on my android and all I use it for is browsing a few sites, googlke talk and google maps, downloading new apps and updates, and viewing my pets on my webcam well i’m at work. IP cam viewer I mostly use on WIFI to view my pets.

(34) Joe Friday :

The reason I’m paying for Verizon’s unlimited data plan is so I can use lots and lots of bandwidth. In fact when I got my smartphone I was forced to get the unlimited data anyway.

It is Verizon’s fault they screwed themselves over by allowing people to have unlimited data in the first place. By severely limiting how much data I can use will only drive me to another company that has unlimited data. With more and more services becoming cloud based most users, even those who rarely go online with their smartphones, will very quickly burn through the measly 150mb that comes with the bottom tier. An average businessman who uses his phone for work while commuting will burn over 1gb of data a month .

Unless Verizon offers relatively cheep data packages in the gigabyte range they will be losing thousands of business accounts because of their plan. Each cancled business account having 5-50 phones is a big enough hit to Verizon’s pockets that they will have to amend their tiered plans just to halt such a massive profit loss.

May 22, 2011 at 1:46 pm
(35) DannyNYC :

I’m on t_mobile, and I had 2gb data restriction one time when I was using it a lot. So, it’s nothing new, the problem is that smartphones using data all the time, even when it’s just in your pocket, idle. You can switch to different provider but they’ll charge you the same our similar amount. However, I do expect from largest cell company with highest prices to be real “unlimited” provider, if they need to price it up, why not? Just let people use their phones for what they want.

UNLIMITED TALK – TEXT – DATA FOR $45.00 MONTH.

I use Straight Talk and love it. They are a reseller for Verizon so they use the same towers and have the same reception. They offer unlimited talk, unlimited text, and unlimited data for $45.00 a month (prepaid) I never needed anything fancier. If you do, plan on paying for it without complaining. It has a querty keyboard that slides out but you can choose from several different Nokia phones at Walmart. What a HUGE blessing it was to get out of Verizon Wireless’s scam after 9 years! Would NEVER lower myself to go back to those crooks. You can get Straight Talk and calling cards at Walmarts -

May 22, 2011 at 1:58 pm
(37) hmmm :

This would open the door for someone to offer unlimited at a good price. Didn’t they just have a tech discovery where they can make the towers at half the cost and twice the power? There was just a story a few months ago. Costs have been dropping this is a money grab.

May 22, 2011 at 2:05 pm
(38) Socalreliable :

What I dont understand is, our data is being sent to Apple and Google even when you put your phone in stand-by. When you turn it off, as soon as you power up your phone again, it retroactively sends out information requested by Apple and Google without your knowledge. I think that in this case, Google, Microsoft, Blackberry, and Apple are in effect stealing our bandwidth and data from us! Unlimited should be the only option, we already get bombarded with ads on almost every app we use, the advertiser and Google, Apple etc should be paying the difference on our data plans for the gathering of our information. Or you can get a tier plan and your data is private with no background data.

(39) Bubba :

Verizon get 120.00 per month out of my GF she just has a basic phone with no data plan. They are a total ripoff and ATT is not much better. After the Tmobile merger, we will have 2 phone companies to deal with and 3 banks in this country to deal with. Fits the exact defitnition of communism. Look it up you know what im talking about….

Kpeppe needs to shut up, you sound like a social marketer. It is bad enough bandwidth is terrible in the USA, compared to Asia. Our technology is sh!t and these greedy whiskey heads want to limit broadband. LTE technology can deliver more, but I guess they can jack up the price. Lack of competition is not good for the consumer. Only carrier now is Verizon and ATT.

May 22, 2011 at 2:25 pm
(43) Laff :

It’s funny though because these people don’t realize that existing unlimited will not change until you decide to do so. I am still on an unlimited internet plan with verizon for my pc. I will not change my plan. When I switch to a 4g mifi , I will still have my unlimited plan.

The sky is not falling. To many chicken littles out there.

May 22, 2011 at 2:30 pm
(44) peabody :

In general, the change to billing for data is justified, with a caveat. Since it appears that a large chunk of the “phone” companies’ expenses is to upgrade the infrastructure to handle the exponential growth in data usage, then consumers should pay for this privilege. (nothing is free) HOWEVER, companies’ should also significantly reduce or eliminate the charges for talking and texting, which consume a negligible amount of bandwidth. Consumers have been getting screwed by inflated talk/text charges for years… unfortunately, I think this will continue even after paying for tiered data.

@43, When I got my 1st 3G phone I was forced off of my grandfathered plan. The reason giving was that if I got a new 3G phone it has higher speeds thus, its a change of contract and would mean I would have to get a new contract. I’m sure the same will be for 4G

May 22, 2011 at 2:50 pm
(49) R.H. :

This is the reason I use Sprint. I’ve consistently used over 30GB per month on my Optimus S and just over 60GB last month. Not only has Sprint never complained about my personal usage but they have aired an ad with their CEO staying that they believe mobile data should remain unlimited without throttling or usage caps.

Sprint has definitely earned my loyalty for at least another two year contract.

May 22, 2011 at 2:57 pm
(50) mpa :

Oh, what a bunch of whiners many of you are.

It costs money to build and maintain networks. You want to use the network so you pay for it. How difficult is that? If idiot I-phoners hadn’t crushed ATTs network they’d still have unlimited plans too. If you want to complain about something the wireless companies gouge on, complain about text messaging charges. Those cost nothing for them to deal with but they charge a premium for the service.

Now it does seem like VZW is lowballing with 150MB for $15. Disclosure: I’m an ATT customer and pay $25 for 2GB. Despite monitoring 10+ active email accounts, listening to Pandora 4-5 hours a day, surfing, maps and research, I’ve never gone above that 2GB limit.

I suggest that some of you have your phones configured poorly and are using up bandwidth when you don’t need to.

Woooww…. How asanine of any smartphone carrier to inhibit data usage in this tech-savvy age! Most of us use our phones as a primary source of connection; it’s convenient “must-have-ivity” since most of our time is spent away from desktops. Wireless carriers are the new drug industry for this move: Cashing in on an evolved necessity– SHAME!

May 22, 2011 at 3:16 pm
(53) Ben :

Sprint is NOT on life support. So posting inaccurate information that you have no clue on is just plain stupid. Also, this is a bad move for Verizon period. AT&T has been trying this for quite sometime now and since the introduction of th first IPHONE has caused them nothing but headaches and more recently class action lawsuits over the overage fee’s. I have sold for all three of these carriers, I am very much in tune with the cell phone industry. This move is going to benefit someone… SPRINT.

I’m glad Verizon will get rid of unlimited. I think the people who abuse it should pay more. All the losers with no life who can’t get a girlfriend and look at movies on their phone should pay more. Listen to your Ipod on the way to work. Why do you have to watch a movie on the way to work? I have a 2GB plan at AT&T and never go over. I use the phone when I need it and don’t stay glued to it 24/7 like a moron. I have a job and life and don’t need to do that. If people were responsible like me then there would be no need to ban unlimited because I don’t abuse it. If you have nothing better to do that watch a friggin movie on your iphone, you should pay more and perhaps sign up to a dating site so you could have more of a life. The virgin tech nerds always screw everything up for everyone so blame them for this.

Sprint is the only company that offers truly unlimited data. I have the EVO and I use about 5 GB of data a month and there’s no throttling at all. I just got the netflix app for the EVO as well so movies stream clear and fast. And I don’t have to worry about getting data capped or paying overages. I have a 4 line unlimited family plan with Sprint I think its called the Everything Data and with taxes I pay about $178 a month. I used to be with ATT and T-Mobile before and Sprint is just the best choice.

Verizon and the whole lot of them are thieves. The cost for providing a text or a GB of data are incalculably small amounts. Their profits aren’t.. They make 100’s of billions a year IN PROFIT. Its just a sales ploy. They may take unlimited off the market for awhile to NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY so they don’t lose their current loyals; then they will have a big sale on some new flashy phone and an ulimited plan that people will flock to more than before and wham they made a bunch of money. Its called rotational marketing and they’ve been doing it for years.

(72) Thomas :

I am confused by all those who say video should not be used on a smart phone. I am both a Vz and Att user with unlimited data on my Vz iPhone and my iPad 3G which was grandfathered in since Steve Jobs promoted it and then Att quickly got rid of it. I can not stop the month to month on the iPad or I loose it. I have been in IT for 25 years and can tell you we are only going to use more and more data and these caps will fail. The only reason to buy a 3G tablet or phone is so you can use lots of data, otherwise you would save you money and just buy a wifi device. The only company that has it right is Sprint. If people look at the data charts they will find it shocking how much data they actually need to use the device for streaming any kind of media. By the way I use to use a trac phone but only got a Vz iPhone because they were planning on getting rid of unlimited data and like Att I wanted to be grandfathered in.

I was forced to have a data package for $29.99 in order to buy a smart phone in the first place with Verizon. Unlimited data was the least they could do for the ridiculous amount I pay.

I would be ok with this if the plans allow for decent data amounts and they quit charging extra for tethering. If im paying for an allotment of data then I should be allowed to use it how I want to.

You people could solve yourself so much anger and worry by just putting in wifi at your house, and asking your employer to make your business wireless (if it isn’t already). I mean seriously…you spend most of your day at those two places!

Truth is they’re only after the MONEY!

They could care less how much data you use. Once data is portion controlled, the income increases astronomically! Corps saw that when customers agreed to pay ludicrous rates to send a text message!

All the stockholders want, and what business execs are taught in biz school, is increase profits and we don’t care how you do it!

It’s simply how little will it cost us to convince customers to hand us more money!

They’ve convinced Americans that $125/mo per cellphone plus charges and taxes is a bargain for the opportunity to download data.

Mobile Corp execs see oil industry printing money so they want to as well. They pay politicians big bucks to keep the rules away from their cash registers.

This is not good. The only reason I even went with the phone was because of the unlimited data plan. I assume they will be grandfathering because we have contracts.

(83) buzz :

I just talked to a Verizon Rep who said if you have a unlimited data plan now you will be grandfathered and keep it unless you change plans in the future. Just keep your plan and you keep that too.

May 22, 2011 at 5:58 pm
(84) John Anon :

This is very bad news for those who have the family plan and one or more members contemplating an upgrade to a smart phone. I would be shocked if Verizon didn’t insist on the “new” contract being subject to the new measured data plan. Even if they grandfather those already on the unlimited plan. In that case, the entire family needs to move to another carrier if, after consideration of the early termination fees, the overall cost is less.

Of course, Verizon hopes that having one phone subject to early termination fees will keep the entire family with Verizon, no matter how terrible the new plans are.

How can I be abusing unlimited data? Unlimited means just that, unlimited. Because I am paying for unlimited any amount of data I use is normal.

Buzz:

As soon as your current contract is up you will lose your unlimited data plan. If you switch to another phone you will lose your unlimited data plan. So if you want to keep that unlimited data you better not switch phones and sign up for the longest contract they have before Verizon gets rid of it.

Again, grandfathered plans! I have a droid 2 global and like hell I’ll switch since its grandfathered under a plan from a droid 1. Very tricky thing data plans are now. If they can push you off your little unlimited plan, they will.
Fun fact : my droid 1 runs at 1.21 giga(watts)hertz, while the d2 runs at 1.2…bttf anyone?

Verizon already uses throttling to limit the bandwith you use. Its obvious they just want make more money.

May 22, 2011 at 7:56 pm
(88) Chidozie :

Move to Sprint, if you can’t deal with limited data, but i wonder what people do with data, i have notice some thing new since debut of smart phones, people don’t interact with people any longer, in bus, park, school and etc, they bury them self in their phone ignoring ;every body in their left or right side. and wasting scare data on watching movie and rerun on their phone. if you used it you pay for it period.
It take money to maintain those towers and bandwidth -carriers. Cell phone was made for talk if you are not home, not to bring your entire home entertainment on bus or park.

I will close by saying if you don’t like it start your own phone company and charge $49.99 for Unlimited data and talk and text, your company can throw in free international calling , i promise you i will not go over my mins and data and text i promise.

There is no guarantee that verizon will not eliminate your grandfathered plan option at contract renewal time. They can and will do what they want. Your signing a contract remember and it could be a “new” contract giving you a tiered plan, so just don’t be disappointed thinking your grandfathered plan means for ever.

I have four lines with verizon, and they screw me every month, I just over drafted from them double billing my account, they are making plenty of money 359.00 a month from my family, like they need to cut anything to make more for themselves.

Nonsense–I disagree with the philosophy of limited
band width–and other excuses. I have seen all this
before in a competitive marketplace.
To me, this is flat out greed, like much of everything else
(gas/oil for example) that is happening in our
money-driven society. Consumers need to read between
the lines. Stop the use, go somewhere else, don’t trade,
or walk. Look at British Petroleum for example. Come on American–be industrious and think. Sign me Dr. HAH

(95) Can't believe what I read here :

First off Virgin mobile’s data plan is capped and throttled. That $25 data plan is on top of their voice plans. I knew a lot of people that thought their plans were good until they couldn’t connect or service was so slow old modems looked fast.

AT&T has a famous reputation for poor connections, dropped calls, etc. If your some of the people with no complaints great, just keep ignoring all the articles in the trade publications and papers. T-Mobile when purchased will be picking up AT&T’s problems.

Those people worried about your current contact, don’t. You will be grandfathered until your phone needs replacing, or your data usage warrants end of grandfather. Grandfathering is not a contract but a courtesy. When your two year contract is up they are under no obligation to carry you.

(96) Can't believe what I'm heating here :

FINISHED HERE

To familyof5 make your kids pay for their own phones. Almost four hundred for phone service, not all of us have chauffeured driven limos.

YOYO, the reason you were put into new contract was not because your new phone was faster. It’s because of the new phone. People are so used to seeing free phones, they start thinking they are free. It’s called bundeling, you get the new phone at a discount for the length of a 2 year contract. The first cell phone I sold was $1799.99, yea your reading that right.

That’s why some places try to sell you a warranty with your phone. Some even have no deductible. WOW imagine that. Oh before I sign off, to MPA: streaming Pandora doesn’t eat up the data paths. The only thing you listed that might eat up some data is looking at maps. Unless the maps are stored on your phone, like most are now a days.

I no longer sell cellular, but I sold all the major carriers. I’m currently with Sprint and will be until I see better. I’ve been with them since they started. I suffered in the beginning, but now I’m very happy. And costing less than most with no caps or any throttling. I watch no TV, listen to music on a SD card and use over 3 gig a month without fail.

I also use WIFI while at home.

The cellphone companies are lying through their teeth. There is no bandwidth issues. Doesn’t it seem a little convenient that issues only came up after Verizon and AT&T ate up all their competitors?

why wont these telecoms people be reasonable. instead of cutting the unlimited service and charging more to discourage heavy users because of too many traffic, why don’t they expand the module so as to handle more traffic and inch the unlimited fee just a little more.

The problem in the United States is that there is no real free open market. Monopolies trough the whole system.

Mobile Internet speed sucks. Call it 3G or 4G it does not matter, it’s 10% of the average speed we get in Sweden. We had an average speed of 20-80 mbit/s on our 4G network i 2009! Speeds that are unheard of in the United States.

US are 5-10 years behind Sweden when it comes to cell phone/mobile internet technologies.

kpepps17 I agree with you. I fix comptuers for a living and I can only say the mindset, education and social culture of this country was much better years ago. We didn’t need computers think for us (example spell a word) we thought for ourselves. If you must watch a movie while driving or on a plane you can take a portable DVD player or if you MUST use your 4.3 inch smart phone just download the movie at home via your own wi-fi connection.

As far as the smartphone thing with Verizon it’s sad that Verizon takes AT&T customers because of a better network but also because of the unlimited data plan, then takes away the price plan. Personally I use verizon and yes I pay my $130-$150.00 a month. I’m in a business so I must have a reliable service. AT&T got raited a few months ago as the worst network, and people that I know that have t-mobile get cut off all the time. So I use Verizon Reluctantly.

I’m guilty also of having there data plan. truth be told using a smart phone to dial a call really stinks the old fastion dial pad was much better. I mainly use the web to check the bank account or a review of somthing I buying at the moment or while in the doctors office to read. but I’m too busy to use it all day long. I also use it to download andriod games. so once they are downloaded I don’t need Verizons bandwith.

But your right kpepps17 the addiction to this is out of control. we use this smartphone while having dinner with family in a restarunt, in the movie theather, while at work, at traffic lights while drivng, in the supermarket, My mother use to joke about how some people take pictures of the meat in the supermarket to e-mail it home to decide which one to buy.

after spending an hour on the phone with tech support he advised me that the unlimited data plan will be discontinued as of July 7th 2011. If you currently have it you will be granfathered in an keep the service if you don’t have it you have to get it before July 7th.

I just switched from Verizon to Blu Wireless. I have an Android phone and get unlimited text, web, and tether for $50 a month after tax. I also have 300 anytime minutes. Seriously call them. They use Sprint and Verizon towers. Best choice I ever made… I’ve used 12.2 gigs so far this month. Their number is 480-334-5000.

My family have been with Verizon since it started. They are a very good company best service that is out there they, did cut the unlimited data plan but just to let u all know that if u had unlimited data plan or if u were on it. Verizon will honor your contract and let u still have unlimited browsing. I still have unlimited browsing and i love that Verizon honored my contract. They are a very good service and they will bring it back. I know they will cause doing this will cut off a lot people. They will offer the unlimited plan again, hopefully by this Christmas. They are probably doing this to get more money but that’s beside the point. I still have unlimited because i am a valued customer, and i love their service so thank you Verizon for honoring my contract

I’ve been a Verizon customer for 5 yrs @ about $270 per month. I was looking at the new phones and the rep pulled up my account, he informed me my “GRANDFATHERED” unlimited global data plan was gone at the end of my next billing cycle. They hadn’t inform me of this before or anything, my usage averaged 600mb. This is a cash grab plain and simple, no other way to put it.

I’ve been noticing my Verizon Droid slowing down. I’ll have Pandora on while on my commute, and it keeps stopping every 2 minutes. Facebook freezes and I can barely look through it. Plus the pictures are so fuzzy.
This never happened before and I’m convinced it’s due to their slowing down the data.
I’m definitely not a huge data user. Only use it during commutes … total of about 2 hours a day. So I’m not in the top 5%. That whole bit is a flat out lie. All of our data is getting messed up while we pay for the UNLIMITED data.
As soon as my contract is up, I’m either moving to Sprint or getting rid of the unlimited data. I’ll just download songs at home and listen to them instead.
I’m not paying a company for service I no longer receive. Not in this economy where consumers are wising up.
