iPhone: There Was No Shortage / No Need To Line Up

As iPhone day unfolded, I spent the day wondering: "Why don't they tell us exactly how many iPhones each store has?" and it struck me: Apple's "open till midnight" special launch day schedule meant that they knew they had plenty of iPhones to sell.

Indeed, I returned to Chicago's Apple store tonight around 10pm and it was already quiet, with plenty of iPhones for sale at the regular price. Now, thanks to rumor that some stores had no more than 15 iPhones to sell, many queuers bought two iPhones with the hope to resell them on ebay and may be stuck with them.

Late night Friday, a search on eBay returned hundreds of iPhones at starting prices of up to $1000 and no bidders. Of course, who would want to pay that much when they can buy it for less at their local store?
