We don’t hear much about digital coupons here in America, but in Korea they are very popular. According to Reuters the fastest growing mobile phones services in the country are those that allow retailers to send coupons directly to users’ cell phones.

The coupons are sent to the phone with a barcode embedded and to redeem the coupons retailers simply scan the barcodes directly from the phone screen. Reuters also says that the service can be used to send gift certificates directly to cell phones as well.
