"What a Cell Phone Should Be (almost)"
Scheduled for delivery in North-America for 2002, the Ericsson T68 is already available - and a big hit - in Europe. I had the chance to test it recently and, wow!, what a phone: color screen, custom ringtones, Enhanced Messaging System (EMS) which means that it can transmit messages with sound, pictures and animations and much more: The T68 also features really cool games, predictive text input, and, best of all: built-in Bluetooth technology. I used my Ericsson T68 with an Ericsson Bluetooth headset. Put aside the fact that I looked like robocop wherever I went (there's a green LED flashing all the time to indicate that the headset is in use), the sound was great and the result... very convenient. It seems like the best of two worlds: handsfree with no wire and the best sound quality. By combining so many new technologies (EMS, Bluetooth, GPRS) and background pictures and custom ringtones, the Ericsson T68 is, in my opinion, the first of a new generation of feature-rich phones: it sets the new standard of what a phone should be! I think it's obvious that really liked it and, so far, it's the cell phone to beat in 2002, at least for the North-American market. There is one down side however: the Ericsson T68 seems to have a very slow processing power. It does not react quickly to menu selections. For instance, selecting a list of the last dialed numbers can take up to 2 seconds, which is annoying for nervous users like me and perhaps the only reason why I didn't give that phone 5 shinning stars!
