Why do some sites ask me to pay in order for them to send a new mobile logo to my phone?

In general, American sites sending logos and graphics to TDMA phones won't ask you to pay while European sites serving GSM Nokia phones will ask you to pay. This is mainly due to a cultural difference but also to a technical detail. Sending logos over TDMA networks costs nothing to the sender while it costs something with GSM.

Also, in Europe, where cell phone use is more prevalent than in America, logos and ringtones are seen as a profitable industry while in North-America, they are still mainly seen as a hobby.

If you don't want to pay for ringtones and you have a GSM phone, you will need to buy a data cable and use a program such as LogoManager (a shareware. See Download Software for more). By following instructions provided with the program you use, you will then be able to upload any logo or group graphic you can find on free sites directly to your phone.
