Locating Infrared Ports

You must now determine where the infrared ports are on both your phone and your laptop, then place the phone and the laptop so that their infrared ports are in line of sight.

(This example uses the Siemens SL56 cell phone with a Windows XP computer. The procedure for other phones may vary but should be quite similar.)

This example: This phone's infrared port is quite easy to spot: a dark tear-drop-shaped plastic window on the side.

Other phones: On other phones, the infrared port can be on the top of the phone. On some Nokia phones for example (such as the Nokia 3360), the power on switch IS the infrared port too.

Locating the laptop's infrared port:
_

This example: This laptop (a Dell Inspiron) has its infrared port on the right side: a oval-shaped dark plastic window just between the speaker and the round connectors..

Other phones: On other laptops, the infrared port can be at the rear and have different shapes.
