Definition: Predictive text input is a function available in most modern cell phones to facilitate the exchange of text message between cell phone users. With predictive text input, you don't need to press each keypad number several times in order to get the letter that you want. All you need is to press the number corresponding to the letter and, as long as the word you want to type is an existing word, your cell phone should recognize it, by deduction. For instance, pressing "78278" should translate to the word "start".

There are many predictive text input software but the most popular is T9, by Tegic.
