Definition: The general term comprising WAP and other wireless Internet access technologies. For example, prior to the WAP protocol being adopted as the standard for wireless web access, Phone.com had developped its own wireless browser and markup language technology called "HDML". Also, some cellular providers offer wireless web access from a user's laptop or notebook computer through a special modem that works either standalone or that connects to a cell phone.
