RIM rolled out BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) 3.2 in North America, and it introduced two-way Google Calendar synchronization. With the addition of Google Calendar Sync, BlackBerry users will no longer need to use the Google Sync application to keep their contacts and calendar in sync on their devices.
RIM made some other subtle changes to BIS in this update including:
- Automatic Login - Some BlackBerry users will no longer need to enter a username and password to log into their BIS accounts from their device to setup email accounts.
- Show/Hide Password - BIS users can choose to show or hide their email account passwords.
- New Password Criteria – BIS account passwords must be 8-16 characters in length, must contain at least one letter and one number, cannot include the word "password", and cannot include the name of the BIS account or BIS email address.
In order to take advantage of the new features in BIS 3.2, your device must be running BlackBerry Device Software 5.0.0.176 or later.
