LinkedIn for BlackBerry Network Updates

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is one of the last social networking apps for the BlackBerry to incorporate BlackBerry 6 support. Fortunately, BlackBerry lovers who are heavy LinkedIn users can now enjoy access to LinkedIn on the go from their Torch or other devices running OS 6.

LinkedIn 1.5 does not bring much more to the table than previous iterations of the application. The layout of the application is virtually a clone of the Facebook for BlackBerry application, and it works much the same way.

Application Features

You can access your Network Updates, Search, Connections, Invitations, Messages, and Reconnect from the menu bar at the top of the screen. The application Options allow you to integrate LinkedIn with your BlackBerry mailbox and contacts list. If you frequently contact your LinkedIn connections, integrating them into your BlackBerry's contact list will make life much easier. You can also access your profile by choosing My Profile from the menu, but you cannot edit it from the application.

BlackBerry 6 Integration

The touchscreen features on the Torch work quite well, the application is quick, and does not use a lot of device resources. Even though this upgrade was released to add BlackBerry 6 support, LinkedIn 1.5 cannot be searched with Unified Search. Performing searches for LinkedIn contacts that were not part of my original contact list produced no results on the device itself. The lack of Unified Search access is disappointing, especially considering how long it took for LinkedIn to provide an upgrade with BlackBerry 6 support.

If you are a dedicated LinkedIn user, this application will undoubtedly help you connect with other LinkedIn users. The contact list integration will help you link your existing contacts with your LinkedIn contacts, and you do not have to shuffle through two separate lists of contacts to find the person you're looking for. But if you're not heavily invested in LinkedIn, this application will bring little in the way of new or interesting features.
