Multiple UberMedia Twitter apps were recently banned by Twitter for Terms of Service (TOS) violations. As a result, UberMedia was forced to update UberTwitter, UberCurrent, and Twidroyd before Twitter reinstated access for those apps. UberTwitter is now known as UberSocial, and previous versions of the application will no longer be able to connect to Twitter, so BlackBerry users must download and install UberSocial.

Twitter maintains that the UberMedia apps that were banned were linked to the following TOS violations:

  • A privacy issue with Direct Messages longer than 140 characters
  • Trademark infringement
  • Changing the content of users tweets for financial gain

There are no obvious changes to the basic functionality of UberSocial (nee UberTwitter) that impact application users, and the updated version of the app is now available for download.
