I'm planning to buy a phone. Do they all have equivalent ringtone engines?

From , former About.com Guide

Question: I'm planning to buy a phone. Do they all have equivalent ringtone engines?

Answer: Certainly not. First, not all phones have the possibility to accept personalized ringtones in a free, do-it-yourself way. Some restrict that function to ringtones sold by your cellular carrier only. Second, within phones that can accept ringtones, not all of them have the same musical and technical features. Some, like a few Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson phones, have a melody composer that lets you input your own ringtone manually. And when it comes to polyphonic ringtones, not all cell phones can play as many voices. Some only play 16 simultaneous voices while others play 32 or more.
