QR Codes have become increasingly popular on mobile devices, because they can save you time and a lot of typing. A QR Code is a matrix barcode that can be read by QR scanners and smartphones via the camera. QR Codes are most commonly used to store URLs, but they can be used to store text and or even Group information in BlackBerry Messenger.
QR Code Reader Software for the BlackBerry
QR Codes are only useful if you have a software application installed on your BlackBerry that can decipher the code. There are some free applications like ScanLife Barcode Reader and ATT Code Scanner, which will read the QR codes that you take pictures of with your BlackBerry's camera. Once you have found a suitable application and installed it, you are ready to start scanning QR codes.
Using QR Codes
Mobile software app stores on the Web, including MobiHand, are including QR Codes for software and themes. If you are browsing a site and see an application or theme you would like to install on your BlackBerry, open the barcode scanner software you installed, and use it to activate your camera to take a picture of the code.
Once you've taken a picture of the code, the software will try to read the QR Code, and if it is successful it will load the URL of the download on your BlackBerry. You may have to take several pictures before you get one that the scanner software will read.
