Even though your BlackBerry can accommodate a MicroSD card, which will add gigabytes of storage, it has a small amount of internal memory, too. You can save pictures, movies, files, and music to your MicroSD card, but your BlackBerry cannot run applications from it. Since the OS and applications must be installed directly onto the device, conserving internal memory is very important. Here are some strategies for saving memory on your BlackBerry.
Install Applications You Actually Use
Apps are a big business for all smartphones now, and BlackBerrys are no exception. Unfortunately, you will run out of space quickly if you install every new and popular app. Try to keep the applications that you need and use the most on your BlackBerry, and regularly uninstall applications that you do not use. One tip: if you have not used an application in a few months, it is a good idea to uninstall it.
If you installed your applications through App World, you can Archive them to your MicroSD card. This uninstalls the application from your BlackBerry, but does not delete it. Simply click the Menu key and choose Archive. If you decide that you need that application later, you can reinstall it through App World.
Eliminate Redundant Applications
If you use Web services like Twitter or Foursquare, you know that there are a wide variety of applications that allow you to access these services from your BlackBerry. If it's possible, avoid keeping multiple applications for these services on your device. If you have two or three Twitter clients, choose the one that you are most comfortable with and uninstall or Archive the others.
Remove Old Calendar Items, Tasks, E-mail, and Notes
Even though appointments, notes, e-mail, and tasks may not take up a lot of space individually, if you do not purge them regularly, they can devour device memory quickly. If you are archiving them on your PC or in the cloud, there is no need to keep these items on your phone forever. You can set your BlackBerry to keep them for a specific amount of time. If there are important email messages you need to keep for longer periods of time, you can Save them and they will stay in your Saved Messages folder.
